Firstly, apologies for the lack of blog posts of late. A few crazy weeks have kept my nose to the grindstone and I barely feel like I’ve been able to come up for air.
However, it’s never really as bad as we make it out to be is it? Sure, I’ve had a lot on my plate and it hasn’t been helped by falling at the same time as the total rebranding of my business, but with a little organisation we really can fulfil the commitments we set for ourselves can’t we?
In the last couple of weeks I’ve had some totally amazing experiences that have helped shape the future of my business and my attitude towards work, life and achievements.
Firstly, I don’t know whether you remember me introducing you a while back to Cate Bolt through her blog and the profound impact her story had on my business and life attitude. Since that first “meeting” on Twitter and her blog I have become heavily involved in Cate’s Project 18 journey, taking on the PR and marketing role for the charity and also becoming a board member. It’s a very exciting and satisfying project to be involved in and I highly recommend finding a cause that speaks to your heart to give you some perspective in your business and a way to give something back.
I was lucky enough to finally meet Cate a couple of weeks ago when I went to Brisbane to be with her for a photo shoot I’d lined up for her with QCG Magazine. This was an exciting trip but the experience presented me with a situation that involved dealing with several different personalities who all had a completely different perspective. I don’t mind telling you that there were a few moments where the heart was beating furiously with the fear of getting it totally wrong. In the end, everything worked out to the benefit of all involved and I took away one of the most valuable experiences of my working life and a realisation that I should believe in myself and my abilities.
Secondly, last week I attended the Flying Solo LIVE! conference. Those of you who follow me on Twitter will be more than aware of this from my Twitter updates throughout the day! That in itself was a fulfilling exercise, one that I hadn’t intended to do but am glad I did as the feedback I received was wonderful.
But, there was an amazing array of speakers who shared some incredible life experiences and advice with over 350 people. There were a few ideas that kept reappearing throughout the day such as not being able to do everything yourself and having self belief to achieve your goals.
And sometimes, even though you may be a positive person and someone who does tend to achieve what you set out to do, it just takes a little reminder to keep you going. I consider myself to be one of those people and often receive the ‘I don’t know how you do it’ comment from people in response to what I take on alongside running a business and looking after three active little boys. My attitude is that ‘can’t’ should really be a banned word and just getting on with things seems to get you there.
But, even I was blown away by the impact that Terry Hawkins’ presentation had on my attitude. With the hardest gig of the day being the final speaker in a full day of presentations Terry managed to lift the entire room and leave us all feeling revitalised. We can all give in to negative thoughts sometimes, even if we’re usually a totally positive person and, in the last week or so I’ve had some difficult situations to deal with. I could have let my inner voice take over and run away with me but I chose to push it aside, focus on what I needed to get done and refused to have any negative thoughts about what was going on. I can’t tell you how liberating it has been to just accept that people choose to have the feelings they do about a situation and to not feel negative about that. I cannot recommend Terry enough as a speaker and I’m so glad that we are lucky enough to have her presenting at the next Working Women’s Network Event. I guarantee that you will leave this event feeling completely positive about the future of your business and what you can achieve.
Kudos to Angela for enticing Terry along. If you weren’t able to attend Flying Solo LIVE! you can still get the benefits of this amazing presentation right here at the Working Women’s Network at our beautiful new venue, Roseville Golf Club. I can’t recommend this event enough. Goodbye Pit Man and hello Stick Man! (All will be clear when you hear Terry speak!)
Until next time.

Can I just encourage ANYONE to come and hear Terry speak? What an inspiring woman. Her presentation was full of laughs and did make you think hard on how your attitude can affect everyone around. Flying Solo Live was an awesome event and one that is firmly in my calendar to attend each year.
